We recently had the opportunity to speak with Archie Haslauer of Kinetic Solar about their exciting new product and their upcoming involvement with Solar Canada 2016.
We have been in the manufacturing field for more than 36 years. We were well established as a tool & die company but in 2009, with the downturn in the economy and its resulting effects on manufacturing, we began to seek new opportunities outside our traditional work. The Green Energy Act opened up great possibilities for us to enter a new phase by inspiring us to design and create a line of solar racking and mounting. Kinetic Solar was born.
Because we have a long manufacturing background, we understand the industry at a different level than some of the new players in the solar realm. We are unique in our approach and endeavour to work closely with our customers so that we can be as responsive as possible to their individual needs. Our long-term experience and high-quality manufacturing processes ultimately bring an innovative and more user-friendly product to the market. Kinetic Solar also operates not only in Canada but internationally as well.
We are very excited about our solar car charging station product.
It started with Dr. Jose Etcheverry PhD., an Associate Professor with the Faculty of Environmental Studies within the Institute for Research & Innovation in Sustainability (IRIS) at York University, and who is also the co-chair of the Sustainable Energy Initiative (SEI).
Dr. Etcheverry had received a grant to put an electric vehicle charging station at York University. He looked at different options & pricing and came across a solar EV charging station structure manufactured in Italy but he wanted to have a product that was designed and manufactured in Canada and so he approached us at Kinetic Solar and we immediately said yes.
We have since hired Mustafa Nazari who was the Master’s student under Dr. Etcheverry at the time and is now on our team working on the current Kinetic Solar electric vehicle charging station structure which can be used anywhere in the world for residential, institutional, and commercial purposes. Kinetic Solar offers the structure as a single unit (2 vehicle spot- 7kW system size) as well as modular options that can be scaled up to megawatt installations.
We see this product having a very bright future as people realize that while the Ontario government is providing grants for EV car chargers, the electricity used to charge the EVs is typically from the central grid. The solar EV charging station structure generates clean renewable electricity on site that offsets the electrical requirements of the EV if the system is a net-metering setup. It can also be commissioned as a non-rooftop MicroFIT and FIT contract or an off-grid battery setup.
We are bringing our solar car charging station to Solar Canada to be showcased in the EV Lounge and we’re very excited to be working with conference management and one of the EV manufacturing partners to demonstrate our leading edge product.
We at Kinetic Solar are very environmentally conscious. Both my business partner Henry and I are parents. We look at what is being left for our children; what condition the planet is in, what is required to sustain conditions and/or improve upon them, but also what will work long-term. We must find sustainable solutions that alleviate some of the issues facing our future generations.
CanSIA assists to raise this awareness and enables companies like ours to do just that through research, education, marketing and recognition of industry trends and trendsetters through content distribution and the annual awards gala.
We feel very lucky to be a part of the solar industry and privileged to be participating in a field that is just starting to come of age while also helping a portion of manufacturing to remain in Canada.
